Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. Azerbaijan was the first to propose the creation of the Journalist Association of OIC Member States during the OIC summit in Tehran on 3 December 2014, said Azerbaijani president’s aide for public and political affairs Ali Hasanov.

He made the remarks at a conference of the Journalists Association of OIC Member States in Baku.

Hasanov said he also proposed that the Association’s secretariat be based in Azerbaijan.

“It is necessary for journalists of Muslim countries to come together on a common platform and coordinate their activities in order to prevent the true essence of Islam from distortion and Muslims from being labeled as terrorists,” said the top official.

“President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stressed at the Baku International Humanitarian Forum that solidarity of Muslim countries is necessary. We hope this issue will be discussed at the 11th meeting of OIC ministers of information. We also hope the newly-created organization will hold its first conference with the participation of OIC journalists in Baku next year,” Hasanov added.
