Press Council made an appeal to Euronews TV channel and Le Figaro publication, the Council told APA.

Noted in the appeal that it is deeply regrettable that the content of the speeches of some persons who spoke during the protest action held on December 25 in the city of Khankendi, which is in the temporary control zone of the Russian Peacekeeping Contingent of Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, in the newspaper Le Figaro and the French service of Euronews in a unilateral and biased manner.

"In total, the approach of the Press Council that expressed concern of the Azerbaijani journalists is that turning the media into the tribune for propaganda serving violence, discrimination, and confrontation is unacceptable and contradicts professional principles of journalism.

Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s sovereign territory recognized by the UN, Khankandi is an ancient Azerbaijani city, and the population living there are Azerbaijani citizens. However, Le Figaro newspaper, and the French service of Euronews, while broadcasting the protest held on December 25, did not consider not only the sovereign rights of Azerbaijan but also even the interests of ordinary citizens of Armenian origin living in the Karabakh region. They presented the issue in the context of the interests of criminals keeping Azerbaijan’s lands under occupation for nearly 30 years and the interests of successors of their actions.

We state regretfully that Le Figaro and the French service of Euronews give the way to those who serve divisiveness and work against the peace agenda in the region, rather than the efforts made to ensure stability in the South Caucasus and peaceful coexistence of peoples. Demonstrating such indifference in the attitude towards the values of journalism is unacceptable and inadmissible.
