"Even during the war, Azerbaijani soldiers did not shoot anyone just because of being an Armenian. There was just one concept for us - "aggressor". As for nationality, 30,000 Armenians lived in Baku and were not subjected to any discrimination," Bahruz Maharramov, member of the Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament for Legal Policy and State-building, told APA.

MP has noted that the issue of Sputnik is not an issue of discussion due to the management of the organization by an Armenian person: "What worries us is that Margarita Simonyan's Sputnik agency has become a nest and mouthpiece for revanchist Armenians."

Although we can not interfere in the broadcasting policy of any foreign media structure, we have a right to defend our national interest in the information war. In this regard Simonyan’s clear provocative activity, disrespect against Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, and most of all using state resources for such indecent activity are unacceptable. Why does not Azerbaijan suspend the activity of Sputnik-Azerbaijan?”.

Bahruz Maharramov considers that first of all we should officially say our concern and clear position to our ally Russia, and Simonyan’s activity which is not in the spirit of Azerbaijani-Russian relations: “As a second step, at least until Simonyan was not removed from leadership, the activity of Sputnik-Azerbaijan should be suspended. Especially we should take into account that at a time when hopes for a settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and a peace agreement are growing, Sputnik-Azerbaijan is a threat to the healthy informational environment in the region.”
