On August 3, members of illegal Armenian armed groups in the territory of Azerbaijan, where the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is temporarily stationed, grossly violated the provisions of the Statement dated November 10, 2020, and committed an act of terrorist sabotage against the units of the Azerbaijan Army, said Anar Eyvazov, deputy head of the Press Service of the Ministry of Defense, APA reports.
The official of the institution said that as a result of terrorist provocation, Azerbaijan's military serviceman Kazimov Anar Rustam oghlu was martyred.
In addition, the elements of illegal Armenian armed groups tried to seize the Girkhgiz hill, located in the mountain range covering the territory of Kalbajar and Lachin regions, and to establish new combat positions there:
"As a result of the retaliatory operation "Revenge" carried out by the units of the Azerbaijani Army, the Girkhgiz Heights, as well as Saribaba and a number of other important commanding heights along the Karabakh Range of the Lesser Caucasus mountain range, were taken under control. Currently, our units are conducting engineering works on the construction of new positions and construction of security roads at favorable limits.
As part of the operation, several combat positions of illegal Armenian armed elements were destroyed, and an airstrike was carried out on the military unit in the Yukhari Oratag settlement of the former Aghdara region. As a result, the live force of illegal Armenian militants was destroyed and wounded, as well as several D-30 howitzers, military vehicles and a large amount of ammunition were destroyed. The Republic of Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that, contrary to the tripartite statement, the presence of Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed groups in the territories of Azerbaijan, where peacekeepers of the Russian Federation are temporarily stationed, remains a source of danger.
The demilitarization of those territories, the complete withdrawal of Armenian troops from there, and the disarmament of illegal Armenian armed elements are absolutely necessary."
Anar Eyvazov noted that, guided by the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, any terror and provocation committed in the sovereign territories of our country will be resolutely prevented and countermeasures will be even more shocking.
A. Eyvazov today expressed his condolences on behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense to the relatives of our soldiers who were martyred as a result of Armenian provocation.
