“Mines have serious affect to the environment, when mines remain underground for a long time, the soil is exposed to chemical pollution” said Assistant to Azerbaijani President Hikmat Hajiyev while replying to the question at the briefing held today in ADA University on Mine Awareness and Mine Action Day, APA reports.
The assistant to the Azerbaijani President said that the mines have also a humanitarian impact, and affect people’s lives: “The mines are planted in order to find its victim. Armenia continues to kill Azerbaijani civilians through the hiding of mine maps. This is a violation of international law and is a military crime. We appeal to international organizations. This prevents the return of Azerbaijanis to their lands. This obstructs the Azerbaijani government to implement the restoration process. We raise this issue in the bilateral meetings” said Hikmet Hajiyev.
