“The USA has supported the project of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, connecting Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia, as well as the project of Southern Gas Corridor, which is nearing to an end, said Deputy Assistant Secretary in the European and Eurasian Bureau at the U.S. Department of State Georgia Kent at video-conference with Marshal Foundation, APA reports.

He said the US will also continue to support new economic initiatives, helping the development of regional countries.

“These projects are significant. Billions of dollars of funds are spent in order to carry out them and it requires a long time to complete. Currently, the implementation of a new project is being considered. The construction of the deepwater port in Georgia’s Anaklia and Poti is planned. The construction of the deepwater port will allow the use of larger cargo ships which will increase the trade opportunities of the region. In my opinion, this is a useful project for both Georgia and neighboring countries. Because it is an alternative trade direction. The US will support the implementation of these projects because these projects allow the development of the region,” George Kent stressed.

Conflicts in the member states of the European Union's Eastern Partnership program were also discussed during the video conference.

G. Kent emphasized that the United States supports the solution of conflicts in member countries: "These conflicts are sometimes called frozen conflicts. It also includes semi-frozen with lesser intensity conflicts such as Transnistrian in Moldova and Nagorno-Garabagh.
