“I have always tried to remain faithful to my father’s path. When the people of Azerbaijan trusted me for the first time in 2003 - before the elections, I said that if you trust me, I will be faithful to the policy of Heydar Aliyev and follow his path in all directions. I am glad that I have been loyal to my promise and kept my promise,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Turkish A Haber channel, APA reports.
The head of state noted that today, Azerbaijan’s rapid and successful development, enjoyment by it of great respect on the international plain, solution of social, economic, other problems inside the country, implementation of large-scale projects is surely the continuation of the path set by Heydar Aliyev: “Of course, the world is changing, the ratio of powers in the world is also changing. Of course, the contemporary world can’t be compared with the world in 2003. But our strategic targets remain unchanged. And they are to strengthen independence, to be committed to the independent policy, not ever to depend on anybody from now on, not to bowhead in front of anybody, to preserve, to protect our honor, and to restore our territorial integrity. In other words, shortly speaking, my father’s testament consists of this."
