“Iranian companies are ready to participate in the restoration and reconstruction of Nagorno-Karabakh,” said Head of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce Hussein Pirmuazzin, APA’s bureau in Tehran reports.

He stated that perhaps the only country that Iran was able to maintain economic relations with during the pandemic was Azerbaijan: “Thus, our joint customs have not been closed for a single day. In addition to not closing the Bilasuvar and Astara customs, an increase in export capacity was also observed. Economic relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have been continued since the beginning of the pandemic, but the movement of citizens between the two countries has been banned. At present, customs checkpoints operate 24 hours a day, and exports are being carried out mutually.”

Hussein Pirmuazzin noted that negotiations have not been held with Iran on participation in the reconstruction of Karabakh: “Iran will make proposals regarding Karabakh’s reconstruction after reopening of roads closed due to coronavirus pandemic. We will hold negotiations regarding this issue at the first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran Joint Economic Commission. At present, we are gathering Iranian companies that can operate in Karabakh and border regions.

He emphasized that Iran can cooperate with Azerbaijan in all areas, including construction, economics and the establishment of joint industrial companies: “Azerbaijan, at the same time, is considered a transit destination in the direction of exports to Eurasia and the CIS.”
