Lavrov: "I do not remember that interest was shown to the Karabakh issue in our numerous contacts with my Iranian counterparts during these years"

The choice regarding resolution format of conflict in Karabakh belonged to Azerbaijan and Armenia themselves and it is the reason of composition of participating sides in this statement and not paying attention to the peace plan, presented by Iran," said Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, APA reports citing Ria Novosti.
"We should not think of who and when will be able to help or will not be able to help the resolution of the conflict. I stress once more that the choice of format belongs to Azerbaijan and Armenia. Only this determined composition of participants in the statement. It was not thanks to Iran or Turkey, it could not be."
Now the main point is to think about how we will complete all reached agreements and transform the conflict zone into a coexistence zone, neighborhood, and cooperation.
“Our driving factor in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is willing to put an end to the bleeding. The parties to the conflict- Azerbaijan and Armenia- have noted that they agree to do this with the mediation of the Russian Federation. There is no other idea behind this. By the way, I do not remember that during my years as Russian Foreign Minister, the interest was shown to the Karabakh issues in the numerous contacts with my Iranian colleagues, and this issue was discussed in our consultations or negotiations,” said Russian Foreign Minister.
Lavrov has noted that he understands Iran’s concerns, because normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will effect Iran’s transit interests, especially these interests have strengthened at a time when the United States imposes sanctions on Iran.
“It is impossible to reject the basic principle approved by everyone for a long time: the result of the war must be the normalization of the relationship in the region.
Main directions of the Iranian initiative were also clearly indicated in the joint statement of the leaders of Azerbaijani, Armenian, and Russian leaders on November 9,” said Lavrov.
