Lavrov: “We do not prepare to stop our attention on situation in Nagorno-Karabakh”

“Russia has paid the closest attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during many years,” said the Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, APA’s Moskow bureau reports.

“If we look at objectively, we have put forward different ideas in order to reach the consistent settlement of the conflict from the trio of co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. We had opportunities several years ago. The agreement, which was supported by the other co-chairs on the basis of Russia's proposal, has been achieved, which could help to save hundreds of thousands of lives from Armenia and Azerbaijan sides. Unfortunately, this does not happen at that time. Now, we see the real situation on the ground which was achieved as a result of personal mediation efforts of the President of Russia".

As a result of his many hours' negotiations with the Azerbaijani President and Armenian Prime minister agreement dated November 9 took place. By the way, in addition to the cessation of military operations, the reached agreements based on earlier formed principles by Russia and other co-chairs. However, I reiterate that the situation mostly implemented based on those principles, but it happened as a result of a large number of human losses. Apparently, this will be a lesson for the participants of such kinds of conflicts in the future. We do not prepare to stop our attention to the situation in Nagorno Karabakh. The meeting of Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders on January 11 is a confirmation of this. At this meeting an agreement was reached on the development of mechanisms for opening economic and transport communications in the region. Not only Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, but also Iran, Turkey, and Georgia have felt the peaceful living of this region, being in kind neighboring condition and prosperity of this region. I also mention Georgia. Because it is also a part of the South Caucasus. In general, initiatives on establishing new relations of three countries of South Caucasus, taking into account the new reality with the attendance of three neighboring countries Russia, Iran, and Turkey, are voiced. The reality is that there is no war, there is an agreement on eliminating blockades. We do not have doubt that Iran will be interested in joining these projects,” stressed the head of Russian MFA.
