“Different opinions are sounded on payment of damage. But reality comes from international law,” said member of Azerbaijani Parliament’s Committee on Law Policy and State-Building Nizami Safarov, APA reports.
Deputy noted that the Treaty of Versailles was signed after World War I: “According to requirements of the Treaty, Germany had to pay compensation. Several articles of the treaty caused discussion. After great discussions, Germany ratified the Treaty. Payment of the damage was an issue, which directly came from the peace treaty, at that time. There are also certain experiences in this regard within the UN framework. We have certain legal authorities on payment of the damage within the framework of the UN. We will, probably, make appeals in this regard. Armenia has already started payment of damage to Azerbaijan. According to the trilateral statement, Armenia’s withdrawal of its troops from the territories, liberated from occupation, is a part of the payment of the damage. There are three forms of payment of the damage: Restoration of condition, which existed before the damage, second one is compensation, and the third one is apology of state, which acted contrary to international law. But Armenia has already implemented its first form. Armenia did it in the international law platform. Our state takes steps, which are necessary regarding the compensation issue.”
