Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament: "Settlement of Syrian and Lebanese refugees in Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia is a matter of concern"

"The illegal settlement of Syrian and Lebanese refugees in Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia is of particular concern," speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova said this in her speech at the plenary session of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

Speaking about Armenia's unconstructive position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan's provocation on the border with the Tovuz region, S. Gafarova said that at the highest level - the UN Security Council in 1993 called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Despite the adoption of the resolution, Armenia, which constantly violates the ceasefire, still ignores these resolutions: "Armenia's latest provocation took place not in Karabakh, but on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. Thus, on July 12 this year, settlements in the direction of the Tovuz region came under artillery fire. As a result, Azerbaijani servicemen and civilians were killed and wounded. All this is a serious violation of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Convention of August 12, 1949, and the Additional Protocol of June 8, 1977, and is considered a war crime. Of particular concern is the illegal settlement of Syrian and Lebanese refugees in Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia today, in violation of these conventions."
