Tural Ganjaliyev commented on Armenian ombudsman's thoughts
- 12 May 2020
The head of the Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan Tural Ganjaliyev commented on the views expressed by the Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan during his speech in parliament.
T. Ganjaliyev emphasized that it is obvious that such a statement by a representative of Armenia, the state that violates the most basic human rights of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was made for the purpose of political propaganda.
According to him, A. Tanoyan is trying to express his views by hiding behind the current curtain of human rights: "Speaking about human rights, Tatoyan forgot to talk about the rights of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani IDPs who were subjected to ethnic cleansing in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as a result of the occupation of his country."
The Community chairman noted that the aim of the Armenian ombudsman was to support his country's "negotiation for the sake of negotiation" tactics, like most Armenian officials: "I would also like to draw the attention of the Armenian political leadership to the fact that as the Azerbaijani community in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan, we have repeatedly invited representatives of the Armenian community to a dialogue to discuss peaceful coexistence, but failed. It is not a "negotiation for the sake of negotiations", but a dialogue between the two communities that will live together peacefully within the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the future can bring the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict closer to final peace.
Therefore, I invite Tatoyan himself to support inter-communal dialogue. However, if the Armenian ombudsman wants to identify those who do not respect the basic principles of human rights in Armenia, then he can start by prosecuting the perpetrators of the Khojaly genocide, war crimes and other crimes against humanity.
The Armenian ombudsman should also work to restore the violated rights of Azerbaijanis who have been subjected to ethnic cleansing in Armenia and expelled en masse from their ancestral lands. This issue was raised before Armenia during the periodic reports of the UN Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review."
