Turkish Grand National Assembly: “It is surprising that US senators criticize Azerbaijan and Turkey instead of condemning Armenia”
- 12 February 2021
A total of 87 deputies from the AKP, CHP, MHP and IYI Party of the Turkish Grand National Assembly has issued a protest statement on the letter penned by 54 senators calling on President Joe Biden to press the Turkish government regarding the ongoing human rights situation in Turkey, APA’s bureau in Turkey reports.
The statement says that the irresponsible accusations of the senators targeting Turkey's domestic and foreign policies are not in the spirit of a strategic alliance with the United States and NATO.
“Instead of criticizing our fight against the FETO terrorist organization or other terrorist organizations that want to harm Turkey, the senators should provide support to their allies. In addition to this, those who want peace and stability in the Middle East must see that our fight against the PKK terrorist organization and its Syrian affiliate, the PYD / YPG, which killed 40,000 people in Turkey, is as important and just as the fight against ISIS. At the same time, we surprised that in the letter of senators instead of condemning aggressor Armenia which occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories defined in 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council, killing innocent children and omen in numerous cities including Khojaly. Criticizing Azerbaijan which protects its territorial integrity and Turkey standing by it in accordance with the requirement of international law. While the US one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk group trying to solve the conflict within the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, showing the opposite position of the senators is surprising,” the statement reads.
