Azerbaijani MFA: “Restoration of our territorial integrity is inherent right of Azerbaijan as enshrined in UN Charter”

Head of press service of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva shared a post regarding the 26th anniversary of occupation of Aghdam in her Twitter page, APA reports.

“Today marks 26thAnniversary of occupation of Aghdam by Armenian armed forces.

Restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and ensuring return of IDPs from Aghdam and other occupied lands to their homes are inherent right of Azerbaijan as enshrined in UN Charter”, spokesperson stated in her Twitter page.

Note that today, 26 years pass from the occupation of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam District by Armenia.

Armenian invaders occupied the major part of the Aghdam District on July 23, 1993, seizing around 882 sq km of 1,094 sq km territory of Aghdam, one city and 80 villages. More than 6,000 people died during the battles in Aghdam, while 128,000 people became internally displaced persons after the occupation.

The district’s occupation inflicted a damage of $6.179 billion to Azerbaijan. The damage inflicted to the region’s agriculture only is estimated at 992.8 million manats. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict entered its modern phase when the Armenian SRR made territorial claims against the Azerbaijani SSR in 1988.
