In a gross violation of the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, Armenia has occupied Azerbaijan’s sovereign territories by use of force, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
By holding Azerbaijani territories under occupation and continuing illegal military presence therein, Armenia violated the fundamental principles like sovereignty, respect for territorial integrity and deployment of armed forces only after the receiving country’s permission, all of which form the basis of the regime of confidence and security measures on the OSCE Vienna Document, said Hajiyev in response to the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s statement regarding the military drills planned by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
He noted that Armenia hides a significant part of its military potential from the control regime, deploying a large number of military equipment pieces and personnel to the occupied Azerbaijani territories.
“As a result, Armenia, in contravention of the principle of reciprocity envisaged in the Vienna Document, continues to disseminate incorrect information about its military potential and its activities and grossly violates its obligations. Armenia’s actions are a manifestation of irresponsibility and disrespect for the norms and principles of international law,” the spokesman added.
The ongoing occupation of the Azerbaijani territories and the continued use of force by Armenian armed forces against Azerbaijan remains a major threat to regional peace and security, Hajiyev stressed.
