European Parliament preparing statement on Khojaly genocide

The European Parliament is preparing a statement on the Khojaly genocide, Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker said at a plenary session on Friday, APA reports.

“False propaganda about the Khojaly genocide, the fact of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and the co-existence of representatives of different nationalities in Azerbaijan are conducted in Armenian schools,” said MP Shahin Ismayilov.

Ismayilov said the Union of Youth Student Organizations of Azerbaijan, which he leads, conducted an investigation in connection with this and found some facts.

Speaker Asadov asked the MP to present these facts.

“We began work in connection with the Khojaly genocide at the international level, and these facts will be useful to us,” the speaker said, adding that the European Parliament is preparing a statement on the Khojaly genocide.

On February 26, 1992, Armenian military committed an act of genocide against the 7,000 population of the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly.

As many as 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people were killed as a result of the massacre. A total of 1,000 civilians became disabled in the onslaught. Eight families were completely annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, while 25 lost both parents. Some 1,275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 people still remains unknown.
