The presidents of Azerbaijan and Lithuania held a wide-ranging discussion on potential areas of cooperation between the two countries in Vilnius, said President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at opening of Azerbaijan-Lithuania Business Forum held in Vilnius on May 22, APA' s correspondent assigned to Vilnius reports.

"Both countries are moving in the same direction - investing in alternative energy, both countries have huge wind energy potential in the Baltic and Caspian seas, and this issue is on the agenda of both countries. "Although we are on the safe side of energy security, we are still trying to save more natural gas for import and use our own nature - wind and solar energy for electricity generation," the head of Azerbaijan said.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan plans to double the supply of natural gas to Europe by 2027 based on the memorandum of understanding on strategic partnership in the field of energy signed between the European Commission and Azerbaijan last July: "In 2021, gas supply to Europe was 8 bcm. this year this indicator will be 12 bcm and in 2027 it will be 20 bcm. I think this is the minimum."

President Ilham Aliyev also noted that Azerbaijan will soon announce the start of gas production from one of the largest fields in the Caspian Sea. The head of state pointed out that Azerbaijan is a reliable energy supplier for Europe.
