In order for diversification not to remain just a dream, the European Commission should fulfill its tasks and support the development of the necessary infrastructure in South-Eastern Europe," said Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the 9th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 1st Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial meeting held in Baku, APA reports.

"From our point of view, the most realistic scenario is to increase the production of Azerbaijani gas that will be delivered to the central part of Europe," said the minister, recalling the signing of a memorandum of understanding on natural gas between Hungary and Azerbaijan this week.

At the same time, Siyarto noted that this has certain initial infrastructure conditions: "Although increasing the transmission capacity of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline is good news, important network development programs must be implemented in Southeast Europe as well. Therefore, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia appealed to the European Commission to approach the issue as a priority and to support the necessary measures to ensure the energy security of the Central European region. If the European Union is not only using diversification as a political communication tool, then it is time for Brussels to initiate and finance the necessary infrastructure developments in South-Eastern Europe, to enable involving increased gas production from Azerbaijan".
