"Azerbaijan's strategy on energy safety has been divided into several stages. In the first stage, during three years after restoration of our independence, in 1994, Azerbaijan was the first country that invited leading energy companies of the foreign states to cooperate in the Caspian Sea. Soon, we have become a country which exports oil to the European market and mostly to Italy," said President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev while his speech on “The role of Azerbaijan for Energy Security” at the plenary session of the 48th edition of the international Cernobbio Forum in Cernobbio, Italy, APA reports.
Bringing to the attention that Azerbaijan has been the biggest oil supplier of Italy for many years, head of state noted: "We needed export pipelines as a country which does not have an access to open sea. We established strategic oil pipelines to Turkiye in the Mediterranean Sea port and Georgia's port in the Black Sea, have been able to change the energy map of Europe by diversifying energy supply to the world market."
