Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori is planning to resign from the position of head of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The move comes after Mori faced severe criticism over sexist comments he made during a closed board meeting. At the meeting, Mori stated: "If we increase the number of female board members, we have to make sure their speaking time is restricted somewhat, they have difficulty finishing, which is annoying. We have about seven women at the organizing committee but everyone understands their place."

Mori has also been facing backlash over the organization of the Games as many in Japan believe the postponed event should not take place because of the coronavirus pandemic.
