One week has passed since Russia launched military operations against Ukraine. Although it is impossible to express specific views on the causes, course, and consequences of this war, we can make some assumptions and draw conclusions.

In particular, some conclusions emerge in the context of the Patriotic War of Azerbaijan against the Armenian aggressors in 2020.

A comparison of the wars in Karabakh and Ukraine suggests that a well-thought-out, pragmatic, prudent policy, global and geopolitical realities should be considered to ensure the country and its people against disasters and tragedies.

Azerbaijan's correct and prudent steps and clever moves on the battlefield of war and politics during the situation in Karabakh war once again find confirmation against the background of what is happening in Ukraine.

Different situations arose both on the battlefield and on the political front each day of the 44-day war. Adequate treatment in these situations, making different decisions almost every day required special skills, abilities, and rationality. Owing to the right decisions of the Azerbaijani state, President Ilham Aliyev, the Patriotic War ended in victory in every sense of the word.

Cold-bloodedness, making the right decisions, assessing the situation correctly, not following provocations and other factors ensured Azerbaijan's victory both on the front and in the political arena. It is worth noting that the Azerbaijani Army did not take any steps against the Armenian civilian population during the war. One of Armenia's goals in firing on Ganja and other settlements by banned weapons was to provoke Azerbaijan. Everyone remembers that as our settlements were bombed and innocent people were killed, there were calls such as "Let'sfire the Armenian cities" However, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev stated that the Azerbaijani Army does not carry out any operations against the civilian population of Armenia, the goal of our army is to defeat the Armenian army on the battlefield. Azerbaijan has shown the whole world that, unlike Armenia's genocidal policy against Azerbaijanis, Azerbaijan's goal is only to liberate its lands from occupation.

It is clear to all that one of the main points in the war was the issue of the liberation of Khankendi. Those, who say “Why did not we enter Khankendi”, should draw a conclusion from what one of the largest European countries Ukraine experienced in front of the world now. Ukraine is supported by the whole world today, however, Russia does not stop attacks, advances further, cities, villages are destroyed, innocent people are killed. Unlike Ukraine, only Turkey stood by Azerbaijan during the Patriotic War. If Azerbaijani Army entered into Khankendi, November 10 statement had not been signed, what is happening in Ukraine shows how would the fate of our country be.

If Azerbaijan did not sign November 10 document, entered Army into Khankendi, no doubt, both Russian military pressure and sanctions of the US and Europe, which stand by Ukraine today, would expect for us. Especially, it was worth remembering that attempts were made in the UN several times to adopt resolutions against Azerbaijan during the 44-day Patriotic War.

Azerbaijan would face what is happening in Ukraine today, we could lose not only what we gained during the 44-day war, but also our independence and statehood.

Namely, President Ilham Aliyev both restored the territorial integrity of our country and guaranteed the country from possible geopolitical cataclysms by establishing equal relations with all regional players, forming a mutual obligation and responsibility system. Thanks to the namely purposeful policy, pursued by Azerbaijan for many years, adoption of the above-mentioned resolutions in the UN against Azerbaijan became impossible.

Azerbaijan demonstrates the right behavior in attitude to what is happening in the international political arena today too. Azerbaijan is an acting chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement and also approaches the processes ongoing in the world in the context of the status.

Involvement of Baku in any political adventure is impossible. All decisions are based on deep political analysis, realities of the period are taken into account, real forecasts for the future are determined, national interests are taken as a priority in the adoption of any decision.

Azerbaijan has today guarantees its security in the most difficult period by establishing alliance relations with both Turkey and Russia. There is no second such country in the post-Soviet area.

It is not a coincidence that those, who analyze the 44-day Patriotic War, especially stress that the state of Azerbaijan and head of state demonstrated great ability and mastery in political platform besides achievements on the battlefield.
