International conference “Islamophobia as a specific form of racism and discrimination: New Global and transnational challenges" which was dedicated to the International Day To Combat Islamophobia continues its work on the second day, APA reports.

A plenary session themed “The intersection of colonialism, new imperialism, and Islamophobia: historical and contemporary perspectives” was held at the international conference.

Jasmin Zine, professor of Sociology and the Muslim Studies Option, at the University of Wilfrid Laurier, drew attention to the islamophobia cases in her country Canada.

“Islamophobia has reached incredible levels in Canada. You remember the incidents that happened on January 1, 2019, and June 6, 2021. In both horrific incidents, Muslim women were wearing hijabs. That is, if Muslim women wear clothing specific to their religious beliefs, they face pressure, isolation, and some violence. All of these are manifestations of hate toward Muslims and Muslim women."
