Muharram month starts in Azerbaijan

Muharram month started in Azerbaijan, Caucasian Muslims Office told in a reply to APA'.

The Ashura day will fall on August 19.

The Gazi Council of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) appealed to the believers on the occasion of the beginning of the month of Muharram.

The appeal says that 1442 according to the Muslim lunar calendar (Hijri) ends, the first day of the first month of the new, 1443 - the month of Muharram according to the Gregorian calendar falls on August 10, 2021, and the 10th day of the month of Muharram - the day of Ashura - on 19 August 2021.

Mandatory quarantine measures stipulate rules according to which people must maintain social distance in order to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. In accordance with the decision of the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers, given the danger of an increase in the number of cases of infection with the virus at mass ceremonies where it is impossible to ensure social distance, the Council of Qazis and plenipotentiary representatives of the Office of Muslims of the Caucasus recommend that this year, during the Muharram period, ceremonies in mosques and shrines should carried out in accordance with the quarantine rules.
