The 64th annual Grammy Awards took place Sunday night after being delayed by the Omicron variant, APA reports citing New York Times.
The show was held in Las Vegas for the first time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and Trevor Noah returned as the host. A majority of the awards were presented at the premiere ceremony, held before the telecast.
Jon Batiste, the bandleader from “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” won five awards. The 19-year-old pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo won best new artist and best pop vocal album.
Rodrigo, BTS, Lil Nas X, Silk Sonic, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Carrie Underwood and Lady Gaga performed. Joni Mitchell made a rare televised appearance to introduce a performance by Brandi Carlile. President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine made a surprise appearance, appealing for help, which was followed by a performance by John Legend of his song “Free.”
