The number of registered coronavirus deaths climbed by 10,502 on November 17, data compiled from health authorities worldwide showed. The figure marks the largest daily rise in fatalities from the disease since the pandemic started, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The total death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 1,343,379. The United States remains the most affected country with over 250,000 fatalities, followed by Brazil with around 166,000 deaths from the virus.

Over the past week, several pharmaceutical companies, including Moderna and Pfizer, announced their COVID-19 vaccine candidates showed more than 90% efficacy in late-stage trials. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that many details about the vaccines, such as the duration of protection, remain unclear.
