The number of infections with COVID-19 topped 43 million worldwide, the Worldometers' tally showed on Sunday after several countries, including Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic, released their daily coronavirus updates, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The United States remained the world's most affected country with more than 8.8 million confirmed cases, followed by India with over 7.8 million COVID-19 infections.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus was at 1,155,524 globally with the US registering more than 230,000 coronavirus-related fatalities, while Brazil ranked second with nearly 157,000.
