The number of coronavirus infections observed on a global scale soared during the last 24 hours, as well as the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19, coming in at 659,511 and 11,086, respectively, data compiled from health authorities worldwide showed, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Both figures marked the second-sharpest increase after the record-high jumps seen earlier this week.

After the latest updates, the number of COVID infections came close to 58 million, while the number of coronavirus fatalities stood at 1,377,539, the reading revealed.

The United States was hit the hardest, with more than 12 million cases reported to date.
