“Recently, the level of the Caspian sea is declining,” said Mutallim Abdulhasanov, head of the Water Resources Management Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources at “Expert hour”, APA reports.
He noted that this trend occurs regularly: “This also happened some hundreds years ago. There were declines and rises. Declines in the level of water in rivers are also observed. The water of the rivers in Azerbaijan decreased by 10-15% over the past 20 years. It is also the same in Volga and Ural rivers. These declines, other hydrological factors lead to a decline in the water of the Caspian sea. Currently, it did not lead to critical condition. However, this case occurs and we consider that after some period the situation will stabilize. Forecasts show that stabilizations occur regularly. We do not see any disturbing factor in this regard.”
