Ministry of Health: If 70% of the population acquire artificial immunity from the vaccination, epidemic process will be stabilized
- 01 February 2021
“The tightened quarantine regime applied in Azerbaijan has given its positive results. Currently, a decline in the number of infections is observed. But, if the applied rules are not followed by the people, the disease may increase again. For this reason, the vaccination against coronavirus infection has started from January 18, in 2021 in Azerbaijan in order to prevent the spread of disease again” said Deputy General DirectorCenter for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health Afag Aliyeva, APA reports.
According to her, conduction of vaccination does not mean the end of disease and a complete victory over the coronavirus yet. Everyone should follow quarantine regime requirements, follow social distance, continue to use a medical mask and other preventive means for a while after it. All measures, taken in this direction, serve for the provision of security of people and protection of their health: "The main purpose of conducting vaccination against coronavirus is to create collective immunity among the people, to prevent infection spread, and to achieve the controllable level. Even you contracted the virus, the disease will be mild due to the antibodies you gained via vaccination. The main purpose of vaccination is to prevent complications and deaths. If 70% of the population develops natural immunity from disease, as well as artificial immunity from vaccination, the epidemic process will stabilize. Vaccination is being conducted in stages in the country. In the first stage, risk groups of the population will be vaccinated. These groups include initially health workers, people with chronic respiratory diseases, people over 65 years of age, and others."
