Number of COVID-19 cases exceeds 1.6 million globally

The number of coronavirus cases registered globally reached 1,601,018, including 354,972 recoveries and 95,718 deaths, according to the latest statistics collected by Johns Hopkins University, APA reports citing Sputnik.

The United States still has the highest case count in the world, with 465,750. This includes 25,960 recoveries and 16,684 fatalities. The state of New York has seen its largest single-day increase in the number of deaths from COVID-19, with 799 new fatalities, bringing the total to 7,067.

Italy has confirmed 143,626 cases including 18,279 deaths and 28,470 recoveries. Spain has reported 152,446 cases in total, including 52,165 recoveries and 15,238 deaths.
