Ombudsman: "8 children killed, while 32 children injured as a result of Armenians’ shelling from September 27"

The Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has made appeal in regard to announcement of the Month of Children’s Rights, the Ombudsman’s Administrative Office told APA.

It was noted in the appeal that 31 years have past since adoption of the UN Convention about Children’s rights dated November 20, 1989 ratified by the Republic of Azerbaijan: “The lavishing of attention on children, satisfaction of their most principal interests, creation of necessary condition for their upbringing in favorable4 social environment, their formation as worthy citizen just make up one of the main areas of the state children’s policy in our country.
One of the main areas of activity of the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan is also the defense and promotion of children’s rights.
The Month of Children’s Rights from October 20 to November 20 has been announced in our country by the Ombudsman in order to increase attention to children, to further improve situation in the area of implementation of children’s rights on the eve of anniversary of adoption of the UN Convention about Children’s rights according to the tradition, this year as well, as in every previous year.

It was stated that Armenia’s military aggression continuing for over 30 years is accompanied by occupation of 20 percent of the Azerbaijani territories, implementation of ethnic cleansing and genocide policy against Azerbaijanis, expelling of over one million of our compatriots from their native lands and their turning into refuges and internally displaced people, massive violation of their human rights. One of the groups of the population who suffered from this conflict and whose fundamental rights were violated were children: “8 children died, while 32 children were wounded as a result of intensive shelling by the Armenian armed forces of the residential settlements densely inhabited by civilian population, social, cultural and strategically significant facilities using heavy artillery systems, aviation, special rocket systems and banned weapons beginning from September 27, 2020. A number of children lost their parents.
