 Prominent Azerbaijani professor Abuzar Khalafov dies

Founder of Azerbaijan National Library Science, the correspondent member of International Information Academy of the UN, Honorary Professor of Baku State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Abuzar Ali oglu Khalafov,89, has passed away on April 27, APA reports.

He was born on December 25 in 1937 in the village of Goycha in Western Azerbaijan. Finished the school in Tokhluca in 1950. During 1950-1955 years he was educated at the Librarianship section of philological faculty of Baku State University. He was a teacher, headmaster and senior lecturer during 1955-1978 years.

In 1961, Abuzar Khalafov got degree of candidate of historical sciences, defended a thesis about “The history of library work in Azerbaijan (1920-1932 years)” . In 1975, he got degree of doctor historical sciences defended a thesis about “The history of library work in Azerbaijan (1953-1958years)”. He was the first scientist in the Soviet Union to defend his doctoral dissertation on library work and receive a doctorate in history.

The prominent scientist, who was honor pensioner of the president of Azerbaijan Republic, was awarded the honor of education worker, Honored Cultural Worker, "Honor" and "Glory" orders.
