“If there hadn't been a pandemic last year, there would have been very dynamic growth in terms of the migration process. However, since March, quarantine measures have been introduced, which are valid until today. All this had a negative impact on migration processes, in general, we see the lowest rates of migration of people in the world," Head of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov said at an online press conference dedicated to the results of 2020, APA reports.

“When the pandemic just started, there was a requirement to determine the legal status of 59,963 people. They entered the country with or without a visa and could not leave the country due to restrictions. We have legalized the appeal of these persons for consideration,” he stressed.

V. Huseynov noted that during the period of the pandemic, some persons' passports expired, and difficulties arose, in connection with which the SMS granted the right to legalize these persons, their stay in the country with an invalid document. Also, forced placement in detention centers has been suspended. Currently, the center contains only persons who have applied themselves.
