“Swine flu” (H1N1) started to spread in 2009. Since then, this virus has flashed around the world. It has already been called seasonal flu,” Hande Harmanci, Representative of the World Health Organization in Azerbaijan told APA.

She stated that “Swine flu” was the first name of this virus, now, it is a seasonal flu: “Of course, there is H1N1 virus in Azerbaijan too. Totally, there are 3 types of viruses in the world. These are H1N1, H3N2 and type B viruses. All of them create disease every year. Currently, H1N1 exists in the world, and I am sure that it exists in Azerbaijan as well. No need to afraid of H1N1 as before. Because it is not a new virus, it spreads among the people for 10 years.”

H. Harmanci said that it is important the people more than 65 years old, especially people with chronic illness, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women and medical workers should use the vaccine against this virus.

Because flu disease may be in a more severe form in these people comparing to others. It may lead to pneumonia even to death.
