World sees record 348K new COVID-19 cases

A record 348,679 new COVID-19 cases across the world were registered over the past day, Worldometer data showed on Friday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

In the same period, 6,424 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded. The number of total positive cases currently stands at 36.78 million, with 1.07 million fatalities (4%).

Countries most affected by the pandemic are the United States, India, Brazil and Russia. However, Europe is also seeing a resurgence of the pandemic, especially in the United Kingdom, France and Spain.

On the vaccine front, China's Foreign Ministry recently revealed that Beijing has joined the COVAX initiative aiming to provide equitable access to COVID-19 diagnostics, treatments and vaccines globally.
