“As a result of global warming productivity will reduce, the plant cover will decrease due to the acceleration of chemical and biochemical processes in the soil,” director of the Institute of Geography, academician Ramiz Mammadov stated at the scientific-practical conference entitled "the organization and management of natural-agricultural systems in arid regions of Azerbaijan", the Institute told APA.
The academician stated that the area of saline land and desertification process due to global warming will increase, water shortages will occur and water of rivers will decrease due to reduction of rainfall: "The evaporation in the Caspian will increase, there will be the possibility of drought more than 50-60 days in the Kur-Araz lowland."
