NATO Department Chief: "We are pleased with MES’s participation in international search and rescue"

On October 18, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan Lieutenant-General Etibar Mirzayev met with the delegation led by the head of the Partnership Office at Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Forces of Alliance in Europe (SHAPE) counter-admiral Bulent Turan, APA reports citing MES.

Welcoming the guests, Deputy Minister Etibar Mirzayev informed the guests thoroughly on the activities of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the national management system in emergency situations. He noted that the International Search and Rescue Team was set up to develop international cooperation in the field of emergency situations and to represent the Republic of Azerbaijan in international humanitarian operations. He said the mentioned training would play an important role in the preparation of readiness of the international team to be certified by the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).

Etibar Mirzoyev noted that the Ministry of Emergencies is participating in the relevant international NATO exercises and is interested in this cooperation. The deputy minister also emphasized that Armenia occupied 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan. The enemy side constantly violates the ceasefire, makes arson in the occupied territories. As a result of fires, both settlements and sown areas are affected. Emergencies Ministry forces are working in emergency mode to eliminate the consequences of these fires.

The head of the partnership department, Rear Admiral Bulent Turan, thanked for the sincere meeting, expressed confidence that the joint efforts to develop cooperation and prepare international exercises would contribute. The guest expressed satisfaction with the participation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in international search and rescue exercises.

An exchange of views on issues of mutual interest took place at the meeting.
