The age limit for those who want to adopt a child is set in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

It is reflected in the proposed amendments to the Family Code.

The minimum age limit for one of the married people (husband-wife) is 25, for unmarried 30 except for the step-father (step-mother), as well as close relatives (sister-brother, grandmother-grandfather, sisters and brothers of parents).

The age difference between the unmarried person who wishes to adopt and the child adopted by must not be less than 18 excluding the step-father (step-mother), as well as close relatives (sister-brother, grandmother-grandfather, sisters and brothers of parents).

Preference will be given to Azerbaijani citizens who have been married for at least 3 years, husband-wife older than 35, married for one year, and foreigners and stateless people up to 55 who have been married for at least 5 years. According to another proposed amendment, the opinion of the adopted child aged 7 regarding the change of the surname, patronymic, as well as his/her own name will be learned. Any alter in the place of birth of an adopted child higher than the age of 10 will be allowed only with his/her consent.

The draft has been adopted after reviewing at the plenary meeting of the Milli Majlis today.
