One year has passed since the start of COVID-19 vaccination in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The Sars COV-2 virus, first detected in China in November 2019, has spread rapidly to all countries of the world, while the first case of COVID-19 in Azerbaijan was registered on February 26, 2020.

Azerbaijan is one of the first countries in the world to join the vaccination process. Even at the time when the vaccines were being prepared, Azerbaijan had already begun negotiations with the countries where the vaccines were being prepared.

Following the trials, on December 31, 2020, the Coronavac vaccine of the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech was approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use.

According to the agreement between the Government of Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China, 4 million doses of Coronavac vaccine will be delivered to the country. Thus, on January 18, 2021, Coronavac was launched in Azerbaijan.

Vaxzevria (Astrazeneca), Sputnik V and Pfizer vaccines have been allowed since May last year.
