"Our hospital is the first specialized urology clinic in the former Soviet Union. In 1971, a kidney transplant in Transcaucasia has been performed for the first time in our hospital. The history of transplantation in Azerbaijan starts from that period," said Fariz Babayev, Chief of Hemodialysis Department of Republican Clinic Urological Hospital named after M.J.Javadzade at the "TƏBİB məsləhəti" program, APA reports.

F. Babayev has noted that these surgeries have actively continued till 1983: "In 2007, our clinic was re-listed as an organ transplant center. From 2011 till the beginning of the pandemic, about 70 patients have received kidney transplants. Currently, an instruction has been given on the implementation of 14 organ transplantation surgeries in Azerbaijan".

The Doctor has noted that organ transplantation is performed through using relative organs in Azerbaijan's and world's practice: "In the next period, transplantation of the corpse organs is being started. The new law has already entered into force. Ethics Commission has been established. Religious figures have been involved in this work. We will actively start organ transplantation from the corpse soon".
