"The number of illegal migrants detained in Azerbaijan is very limited," said Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov, APA reports.

He said that if the number of migrants in the country is 142, the number of illegal migrants varies from 3 to 4 thousand: "The State Migration Service places a very limited number of people in detention centers. At present, the number of people in detention centers by the State Migration Service is less than 10.

“Most illegal migrants are usually citizens of neighboring countries and people visiting our country from Southeast Asia. Currently, there is a certain increase in the illegal migration of Ukrainian citizens. At present, more than 8,200 people from Ukraine live in Azerbaijan. However, I can not say anything about the number of illegal migrants from Ukraine. These individuals are not currently considered illegal migrants. Since if they can't return to their countries due to the current situation, they need to be treated differently. The number of illegal migrants from Ukraine is very small.

The head of the service noted that concessions would be applied to migrants from Ukraine: “Appropriate measures are aundrway to keep Ukrainian citizens in Azerbaijan legally."
