Ministry lends clarity to blocking of RIA Novosti in Azerbaijan

Ministry of Digital Development and Transport has issued information on restricting access to internet resources of RIA Novosti agency, the Ministry told APA-Economics.

The information says that restriction of access to internet resources in cases of placement of information, the distribution of which is prohibited by law in the Republic of Azerbaijan, is regulated by law “On Information, informatization, and protection of information”: “According to that law, by the decision of the relevant executive authority, in cases, if a threat occurs against the state and society, protected by law, access to the web information resource or relevant part to it is limited.

It is not the first time that the mentioned information agency disseminates information against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, information promoting defamatory and separatist tendencies and it was systematic.

RIA Novosti agency by disseminating information against Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, and promoting defamatory and separatist tendencies has violated the requirements of the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan On Information, informatization, and protection of information, and in accordance with that law, the access to the internet information resource of the agency was restricted in the territory of the country.”
