Number of illegal migrants in Azerbaijan declines

“Last year the number of decisions adopted against illegal migration was 9074, Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov said at the press conference held on finals of 2021, APA reports.

According to him, it means an increase of 24 percent in comparison to 2020: “This figure was 7317 in 2020. During the last year, 150 illegal migrants were placed in detention centers for migrants. Among those migrants, no coronavirus cases were recorded. This figure increased by 2,2 percent compared with 2020.”

The head of the Service noted that the number of foreigners living in the country with refugee status is 78, this is the same with 2020’s figure: “26 people living in the country with refugee status are from Afghanistan, 43 from Iran, 3 from Pakistan, 2 from the Republic of South Africa. The number of refugees and those seeking asylum in the country was 35. This figure is 8,7 times less compared with the previous year. This figure was 305 in 2020.”
