During the monitoring conducted last week in order to determine the pollution level of the water of Okhchucay, serious changes and sharp smell in the water were observed, it was said at the meeting of the Working Group on Environmental Issues of the Inter-Administrative Center operating under the Coordination Headquarters for the centralized solution of issues in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

It is determined from the analysis of the water examples taken from the monitoring point of the river near the Armenian border that the concentration of iron, manganese, molybdenum, ammonium and sulfates in the content of the water. Analysis of information passed from new generation automatic hydrological stations installed in the transborder rivers, as well as in Okhchuchay river in Shayifli village of Zangilan district, confirmed the increase of the contamination too.
Contamination of Okhchuchay with heavy metals is observed throughout the year. During the last monitoring reason for the change of the color and smell of the river was sharp increase in the amount of ammonium and sulfates ions in Okhchuchay. Thus in Okhchuchay the amount of the ammonium was 4-5 times higher than the norm and the amount of sulfates several times. This is due to the wide use of these chemicals in the mining industry.
