Territories with high seismicity in Azerbaijan unveiled

61 earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 3 have occurred in the Azerbaijani territory this year, said Director General of the Republican Center of Seismological Service of the Azerbaijan Gurban Yetirmishli in the annual report, APA reports.

He noted that during the year, activity has been high in In Shamakhi-Ismayilli, Agstafa, Shahbuz region of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as in Gusar-Guba, Talish zones. Seismicity has been weak on the south-eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus, in the Zagatala-Balakan region. Alongside this, it has been observed that seismicity has been at the background level in the Caspian Sea: "Seismicity has been high on the Iran-Turkey, Georgia-Armenia borders. In addition to this, eruption recorded in Shikhzahirli, Gushchu and Dashli mud volcanoes in the Caspian Sea".
