"The world community is facing food shortages, and the manifestations of climate change are emerging. However, Azerbaijan is not yet experiencing food shortages," said the head of the Animal Health Department of the Azerbaijan Food Security Agency, chief state veterinary inspector Galib Abdulaliyev, APA reports.

He said the current climate change is expected to show results in 150 years, which requires special preparedness. In this regard, first of all, food stocks must be increased: "If 10 billion 300 million people suffered from hunger 10 years ago, this number has decreased significantly in recent years. Today, around 850-900 million people face hunger."

The head of the department also said that 60% of infectious diseases are of animal origin: "82% of the pathogens used as biological weapons are of animal origin. Meat and dairy products are highly contagious."
