Scientists from the Laboratory of X-ray Astronomy of the Sun of the Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences have registered the largest magnetic storm on a planetary scale since 2019, APA reports.
It happened on the evening of May 12th. The level of geomagnetic disturbances at the peak reached seven on a nine-point scale.
"In fact, the Earth experienced one very short and strong cosmic impact. The nature of the event now, after a day and a half, is not yet clear enough. There have been no noticeable events on the Sun," the press service of the institute said.
