As a result of the urgent measures taken by an investigative and operational group consisting of employees of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office, the Interior Ministry and the State Security Service, some 61 people accused of the bloody events that took place in the country’s Ganja city in early July have been arrested, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said at a board meeting on Monday.

Moreover, 4 persons were eliminated during armed resistance and 13 others were declared wanted in connection with the events in Ganja, noted the prosecutor general.

Garalov noted that the terrorist act committed in early July of this year against the head of the Ganja City Executive Power, Elmar Valiyev, which caused a great public outcry in the country, as well as the mass riots organized by criminals under the guise of religion, which claimed the lives of two police officers, necessitated the protection of sustainable socio-political stability in the country and the national interests.
