Azerbaijan detains five over attempted gold smuggling

Forces of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service have detained five people for attempting to smuggle a great deal of gold pieces out of the country, the State Border Service told APA on Tuesday.

As a result of joint operations by the State Security Service, the State Customs Service and the State Border Service, the group—F. Allahverdiyev, F. Mammadov, A. Rahimov, E. Huseynov, and E. Seyidov— were detained on 18 December when they, on preliminary arrangement with foreign nationals, attempted to smuggle 2,145 kg gold ingots and other gold pieces out of Azerbaijan via the Bilasuvar border checkpoint.
